Celtic Dance and Music Performance

The Birmingham International Center, the Hoover Library and the Alabama Celtic Association will host International Education Week at the Hoover Public Library on Wednesday, November 18th at  4:30 p.m. and the theme will be “Spotlight on Ireland”. This event will be free of charge and will be filled with exciting performances from local Celtic dancers and musicians.

The influence of Celtic heritage is very apparent in Southern and Appalachian music and dance traditions such as clogging and buck dancing. Alabama has a wealth of local Celtic performers who represent almost every Celtic instrumental and dance styles. The dance styles include Set and Ceili dancing, and Irish step dancing made popular by Riverdance.

The performance promises to be interactive. Celtic music includes instruments such as the tin whistle, Uilleann Pipes, fiddle, guitar, pipers, Irish flute and Bodhron (Irish Drum).

For nearly 60 years, the BirminghamInternationalCenter has promoted mutual understanding between cultures through international education programs, annual country spotlights, and services to the business and international communities.
