Anyone attending will be eligible to participate in the Turkish Cultural Foundation sponsored Teachers’ Study Tours in 2010
The workshop will be a broad introduction to Turkey and its culture hosted at the Birmingham International Center. The format of the day will include local Turkish presenters as well as national speakers such as Bonnie Joy Kaslan.
Teachers will receive professional development credit for attending.

8:45 AM Welcome by BIC and Orrin Ford, Spotlight on Turkey Co-Chair
9:00 AM From the Ottoman Empire to Modern Turkey: An introduction to Turkish History
10:30- 10:45 AM Break
10:45 AM The Turks in America – Their contributions and impact on American history and culture
12:00 Noon- 1 PM “ Taste of Turkey” - Turkish Cuisine accompanied by menu, pronunciation guide and recipes-Turkish American Association of Alabama will give a presentation on food.
1:00 PM Turkey and her Neighbors, Challenges and Opportunities
2:00 PM- 2:15 PM Break
2:15 PM Bringing Turkey to the Classroom -Breakout groups on geography, history, language arts
3:30 PM Wrap-up & evaluation – Distribution of materials
