Join hundreds of Alabama K-12 teachers at Birmingham International Center’s Professional Development Workshop.

Featuring over two dozen interactive, hands-on sessions, the workshop addresses issues facing many contemporary classrooms, including cultural and language barriers that continue to arise as the population grows and diversifies. Attendees will receive a “Discover Ireland Resource Kit” containing lesson plans, CDs and background information; student activities keyed to lesson plans; and a deeper understanding of Ireland and the tools to give students an appreciation of another country.

Workshop presenters will offer sessions that bring the history and culture of Ireland to life for attendees. Each presenter will provide lesson plans that fulfill State Department of Education learning objectives. In addition to the sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of Irish cuisine at the “Taste of Ireland” luncheon.

In-School Performances

From February through April, Irish artists will be available to perform for students in their schools. All performances are free for K-12 schools throughout Alabama. Once scheduled, teachers and principals will receive resource materials in advance to help prepare the students for the performance. First priority for performances is given to schools who attend the Professional Development Workshop.
